Resumen:
Between 1901, when Argentine historian Adolfo Pedro Carranza published his acclaimed book Patricias argentinas, and the celebration of the Centenary of the May Revolution in 1910, a multiplicity of actors considered that women involved in the Argentine independence process deserved a monument, a permanent mark in Buenos Aires. Politician Martín Ruiz Moreno first expressed the idea in 1901. After several years of being neglected, the initiative was taken up by a now forgotten women´s group: the Asociación Pro Patria de Señoritas, which decided to commission the patrician women monument to the celebrated Argentine artist Lola Mora (1867?1936). However, the vast research on the so-called first Argentine female sculptor has overlooked this episode. Nevertheless, the planned monument to the Argentine patrician women offers a unique chance to examine some neglected aspects of the first feminism cohort in Buenos Aires (1900?1930), including the role assigned to art and the meanings attributed to the history of patrician women.
