Resumen:
Fatty acid binding proteins (FABPs) are intracellular proteins of around 14 to 15kDa. Many isoforms are expressed in different tissues. Our work focuses on FABPs that are present in intestinal epithelial cells. Two isoforms are abundantly expressed within enterocytes: intestinal and liver FABPs, IFABP and LFABP, respectively. These proteins account for almost 3% of the total enterocyte proteins. They are associated with intracellular dietary lipid transport and trafficking towards diverse cell fates. But still their functions are not well understood. By means of Caco-2 intestinal cell model, we addressed the matter following two pathways: (I) FABP-protein interaction and (II) lipid metabolism upon FABP ablation.
