Resumen:
Background: In a previous study, the mean heterosis (MH) component of the diallel model (a classical genetic analysis widely applied to quantitative traits) for the dichotomic attribute polypeptide profiles from pericarp tomato tissue (P3T2) was estimated by Permutational MANOVA (PM). The variety heterosis (VH) is another interesting component for being disaggregated. With the aim of exploring the applicability of PM to estimate VH, ten hybrids obtained from crossing five homozygote parents were screened for P3T2 at Mature Green (MG), Breaker (B), Mature Red attached to plant (MRa) and homozygote parents were screened for P3T2 at Mature Green (MG), Breaker (B), Mature Red attached toplant (MRa) and Mature Red in shelves (MRs) ripening stages by SDS-PAGE and 25 polypeptide bands were recorded. Five groups of hybrids sharing a common parent were compared for the dichotomic attribute simultaneous presence/absence of each band through PM in order to estimate VH. Results: Applying 1000 permutations, the five groups of hybrids were no significant (p=0.7552) for P3T2 when allmaturity stages were jointly analyzed. When discriminating among maturity stage, again group of hybrid has no significant effect at MG (p=0.8581), B (p=0.2168), MRa (p=0.8332), and MRs (p=0.8242). These results indicating no VH agree with the observed dendrogram of total diallel genotypes, in which all hybrids clustered with two of the five parents, forming a group that clearly differentiated from the other three parents. Hence, just MH was expected to be significant, as it was demonstrated in a previous report. Conclusions:There was no VH for P3T2 in the analyzed hybrids. PM is an appropriate methodology to achieve a diallelapproach to dichotomic data.
