Resumen:
An outdoormicrocosmwasperformedwithtadpoles(Rhinella arenarum) exposedto125 μg L1 chlor-pyrifosandfedtwotypesoffood,i.e.,lettuce(Lactuca sativa) andaformulatedcommercialpellet.Acetylcholinesterase(AChE)andcarboxylesterase(CbE)activitiesweremeasuredinliverandintestineafter10daysofpesticideexposure.Non-exposedtadpolesfedlettucehadanintestinalAChEactivityalmost two-foldhigherthanthatofpellet-fedtadpoles.Nosignificant differenceswereobserved,however,inliverAChEactivitybetweendiets.Likewise,intestinalCbEactivity ? measuredusingtwosubstrates,i.e.1-naphthylacetate(1-NA)and4-nitrophenylvalerate(4-NPV) ? washigherintadpolesfedlettuce thaninthosefedpellets.However,thediet-dependentresponseofliverCbEactivitywasoppositeto thatintheintestine.Chlorpyrifoscausedasignificant inhibitionofbothesteraseactivities,whichwastissue- anddiet-specific. ThehighestinhibitiondegreewasfoundintheintestinalAChEandCbEac-tivities oflettuce-fedtadpoles(42?78% ofcontrols)comparedwithpellet-fedtadpoles(o60%). Althoughchlorpyrifossignificantly inhibitedliverCbEactivityofthegroupfedlettuce,thiseffectwasnotobservedin thegroupfedpellets.Ingeneral,intestinalCbEactivitywasmoresensitivetochlorpyrifosinhibitionthan AChEactivity.This finding, togetherwiththehighlevelsofbasalCbEactivityfoundintheintestine,may beunderstoodasadetoxification systemabletoreduceintestinalOPuptake.Moreover,theresultsof thisstudysuggestthatdietisadeterminantfactorintoxicitytestingwithtadpolestoassessOPtoxicity,becauseitmodulateslevelsofthispotentialdetoxifyingenzymeactivity.
