Toluene is one of the most ubiquitous anthropogenic VOC. Due to its neurotoxic effects, several techniques have been studied to remove toluene, however, catalytic oxidation is acknowledged as the most effective method. Though, the reaction mechanism for VOC oxidation on ceria and metal-supported ceria catalyst is still under debate, and there are still few studies that directly investigate these complex reactions through in situ or operando experiments in order to understand the structure-activity relationships
