This is an attempt to reflect on the critical comments by Leite, de Paula and Correa on the recent effort to reconstruct the debate around unequal exchange in the field of Marxist dependency theory, which apparently left our reading of the basic problem of what is unequal exchange incomplete and imprecise. We understand that this contributed to some misinterpretations of our approach as well as exposing real interpretative differences. On the other hand, perhaps part of the difficulties stem from the fact that Leite and others construct a parallel debate with us and with some of Neto´s work. This can lead to a confusing debate between two interpretations that, while having points in common, do not necessarily converge in all relevant aspects.
