Resumen:
Three foreland basins that are connected through a Neogene foredeep depocenter on the southern edge of the South American plate are analyzed highlighting their common elements and differences. These basins started a foreland phase during the late Cretaceous and show a similar, although slightly diachronic, progression of deformation and sedimentation through the Paleogene. At least two northward migration of the foredeep depocenter are recognized on all of the basins. Contractional deformation changed in character to wrench kinematics during the Oligocene due to major tectonic plate reorganization. Configuration of the inner-basament domain changed during the Neogene wrench-phase and the basins undertake different evolutionary paths. Actually, while the basins located on the offshore are dominated by the transpressive uplift of their active margin, the onshore basins undergo localized transpressive uplift and development of pull-apart depocenters.
