Resumen:
We present the first results that include a qualitative analysis of the pollen cloud content during the spring season of 2007 in San Salvador de Jujuy city (Argentina). The objective was to record the airborne pollen at the period considered. The study was performed using a gravimetric Durham trap placed at a height of 15 m above ground, on the roof of the National University of Jujuy building. Sampling was performed daily and the mounting was made with the Karser glycero-gelatin technique. A Zeiss optical microscope at a magnification of 400x were used for determination and counting. Nineteen taxa were identified, from which the main types are urban trees like Cupressus sp., Pinus sp., Morus sp., Salix sp., Eucaliptus sp., among others also with some herbs like Poaceae and Urticaceae. There is a remarkable anemophilous pollen contribution from native flora coming from the “Yungas” montane forest, such as Alnus acuminata and Juglans australis with high percentages during September and October. The survey now continues with: vegetation census of urban and native species from the “Yungas” montane forest and the development of an airborne pollen reference collection. In the near future we hope to establish a volumetric aerobiological monitoring station.
