Resumen:
This special issue of Chaos, Solitons and Fractals is devoted to honor Gerhard Werner, a colleague and a friend who passed away at age 90 on March 26, 2012, a few weeks after submitting to CSF Paper # 1 of this special issue: Con- sciousness-related Brain Processes Viewed in the Framework of Phase Space Dynamics, Criticality, and the Renormalization Group. This issue honors Werners?s contributions to neurophysiology with special attention to the topic of his last publications. Werner?s influenced neurophysiologist?s intel- lectual agenda for more than 60 years, starting with his seminal contributions on information theory in perception. It is not surprising that his bright intuition for fundamental theory and his peculiar curiosity (as well as his never ending energy) brought him to embrace in the last decade the study of consciousness. He enjoyed big challenges, but even more important, for those of us who were blessed by his friend- ship, Gerhard attitude toward science, was also a refreshing reminder of how fun science can be.
