This paper analyzes
the trials in present-day Argentina of those responsible for systematic human
rights violations committed between 1974 and 1983. After briefly outlining the
history of the trials, the focus shifts to the specific characteristics of the
courts involved and the debate as to whether the crimes in question should be
defined as genocide or as crimes against humanity
