Resumen:
Liolaemus is the second most speciose genus oflizards, including more than 170 species(Etheridge and Espinoza 2000). Its distributionextends from Tierra del Fuego in thesouthernmost extreme of South America to theAndes of Peru. In recent years, several species ofLiolaemus inhabiting the Northwest of Argentina(Martínez Oliver and Lobo 2002; Lobo andEspinoza 2004; Abdala and Lobo 2006; Abdalaand Díaz Gómez 2006; and others) have beendescribed, and probably several others await adescription (F. Lobo, pers. comm). The study areaof the present work corresponds approximately tothe geological provinces of the Puna, Prepuna, and Cordillera Oriental (Turner and Mendez1979), and the Sierras Calchaquíes (Figure 1),including the provinces of Jujuy, Salta,Catamarca, Tucumán, and La Rioja.
