Resumen:
Low radiation doses induce significant changes inpolymer properties, due to their high molecular weights. Irradiation is also economically advantageous and environmentally friendly when compared with other chemical modification techniques since it avoids the use of elevated temperatures and reagents. It is, aswell, an effective sterilization process. Polymers are generally classified into those thatpredominantly lead to crosslink between their chainsand those that primarily degrade under the effect ofradiation. The degree of these changes depends on thepolymer structure and the conditions of treatment. The aim of this investigation consists of getting a better understanding on the influence of either type ofirradiation, gamma vs electron beam radiation (EB), the environment (vacuum vs air) for gamma radiation, mainly in the viscoelastic properties of liquid polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and semicrystalline metallocenic isotactic polypropylene (iPP), commercial and synthetic homo and copolymers, within ta similar molecular weight
