Plasmodesmata (PD) are unique to plants, and are utilized to establishdynamic intercellular continuity between groups of cells enabling the transportof nutrients, developmental cues and ribonucleoprotein complexes (reviewed in(1-4)). Multidisciplinary investigations over the last decade provide evidence thatplasmodesmatal regulation is critical to various basic plant functions such asdevelopment, host–pathogen interactions and systemic RNA silencing. Thischapter highlights various tools used to study PD, and elaborates on the regula-tion of PD during plant development
