A simple and fully distributed algorithm to obtain a discrete bit-loading for gaussian interference channels is presented. In particular, the proposed solution is developed within the setup given by DSL communication systems. The algorithm uses as a starting point the solution of a spectrum balancing problem. Spectrum balancing considers the joint problem of power allocation among users in the multiuser channel. Although the problem is generally solved in a sub-optimal manner, this sub-optimal solution shows significant performance improvement compared to the case when every user shapes its spectrum independently from the others. The algorithm presented here maintains that level of performance obtaining a discrete bit-loading. Moreover, this is done at a low computational cost.
