Resumen:
Maize is attacked by a wide range of pathogens with different lifestyles: biotrophic, hemibiotrophic and necrotrophic. In contraposition, plants have developed several mechanisms to defend themselves with an immune system that can be classified as non- specific or basal (PTI) and specific (ETI). In this study we evaluated 80 maize inbred lines against five foliar diseases in two contrasting environments: Pergamino (high biotrophic diseases pressure) and Tucumán (high necrotrophic diseases pressure). The evaluation was done under natural infestation with appropriate scales. Results were analyzed using GLMM and multivariate analyses (PCA). Through the analyses we identified four groups of genotypes; G1 characterized by ETI resistance, G2 very susceptible to necrotrophic diseases, G3 very susceptible to hemibiotrophic diseases and G4 with good behavior for all the evaluated diseases (PTI resistance). This study might suggest the existence of resistance genes effective against more than one disease in the Argentinean maize inbred line collection. Currently GWAS are carried out between SNPs and the present phenotypic data in order to identify genomic hotspots.
