RESUMO: O livro resulta de trabalho desenvolvido pelo Grupo de Pesquisadores sobre Governo, Ética e Subjetividade (GES), entre 2012 e 2016. O que confere unidade aos trabalhos aqui reunidos é o esforço de ponderar a produtividade analítica da articulação entre a obra de Max Weber e a de Michel Foucault, já esboçada em dois momentos distintos: no final dos anos 1980 e em meados dos anos 2000. O trabalho envolveu o exame dessa bibliografia, a promoção de um seminário internacional (ocorrido em maio de 2013, que contou com financiamento da FAPESP e do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Sociologia/USP) e a organização do livro, de modo a revisitar e atualizar as discussões.Na produção de Max Weber e de Michel Foucault encontram-se semelhanças temáticas, como as da condução da vida e do governo, mas igualmentente de recursos metodológicos, especialmente na forma como ambos manifestam preocupação em reexaminar a história a partir de problemas do presente, na busca de sua particularidade.Na primeira parte deste volume, os trabalhos apresentados exploram proximidades e distâncias entre Weber e Foucault. Especificamente, Colin Gordon, cuja reflexão no final dos anos 1980 foi o ponto de partida para os encontros e percursos reflexivos que resultaram nos textos aqui presentes, propõe revisitar Weber pela via de Foucault, também sugerindo a existência de complementaridade entre eles. Sam Whimster, por sua vez, explora a noção de "condução de vida" na obra de Weber, debruçando-se sobre a releitura desse autor feita por Wilhelm Hennis, central para a identificação de convergências entre o trabalho de Weber e o de Foucault. Já Márcio Alves da Fonseca se debruça sobre os usos da história para entender em todo o seu significado tanto a compreensão weberiana quanto a atitude particular proposta por Foucault em relação ao presente histórico. Daniel Pereira de Andrade trabalha o tema do anormal, mais evidente em Foucault porém, como ele sugere, presente em Weber devido a seu diálogo com as ciências psi, que também emergiam naquele momento histórico. Mariana Côrtes destaca a importância da religião nas origens da modernidade, demostrada pelos dois autores. E Ana Lúcia Teixeira destaca o interesse que dedicam às manifestações estéticas e a habilidade que demonstram para vinculá-las a seus temas principais.A segunda parte do livro focaliza a atualidade das perspectivas de Weber e Foucault. Arpad Szakolczai enfatiza a identificação de limites comuns e omissões importantes presentes tanto na obra de Weber quanto na de Foucault, perguntando-se sobre qual seria a forma adequada de ocupar-se do trabalho deles. Phillippe Chevalier pergunta-se se há algo de especificamente religioso nas análises foucaultianas sobre as origens religiosas do poder moderno. Maria Helena Oliva Augusto questiona até que ponto certas aproximações entre as perspectivas desses autores são realmente possíveis, a partir dos conceitos centrais de "condução da vida", em Weber, e "governo de si", em Foucault.Na segunda seção da segunda parte, é apresentada a versão traduzida do texto clássico de Colin Gordon, publicada em meados da década de 1980, que marca as primeiras explorações das convergências entre as obras de Weber e Foucault. Osvaldo Javier López-Ruiz questiona as condições objetivas de as ciências sociais utilizarem a reflexão desses autores a fim de examinar as possibilidades efetivas do pensamento reflexivo-interpretativo na atualidade. Philippe Steiner, depois de revisar algumas questões que permitem aproximar os procedimentos dos dois, esboça o que poderia ser uma abordagem foucaultiana para a análise do mercado. Fabiana Jardim encerra o livro buscando articular as contribuições de ambos os autores sobre os temas do poder e da cultura política, unindo a experiência política do presente e a atualidade do pensamento de ambos, a fim de interrogar e ampliar essa experiência.ABSTRACT:The book results from the work developed by the Group of Researches on Government, Ethics and Subjectivity (GES), from 2012 to 2016. What gives unity to the chapters is the effort to explore the "analytical productivity" of putting together Max Weber´s and Michel Foucault´s work. This effort has already been outlined in the end of the 1980s and, again, in the midst of 2000s. Our work consisted of examining those references, promoting an international seminar (that took place in may, 2013, and counted with financial support of both Fapesp and the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Sociologia/USP) and, finally, organizing this book in order to revisit and bring the discussions up to date. In the works of Max Weber and Michel Foucault we are able to find thematic resonances ? e.g. the notion of "conduct of life" and "government" but also methodological resources, notably the way both of them care to reexamine history from problems of our present, in search of its specificity. In the first part of this volume, the chapters presented explore the convergences and the distances between Weber and Foucault. Colin Gordon (whose reflections in the end of the 1980s were the departure point to the encounters and discussions that brought us to the pieces we present here) proposes to revisit Weber via Foucault, suggesting they works are complementary. Sam Whimster, on his turn, examines the notion of "conduct of life" in Weber´s work, taking Wilhelm Hennis´ works on Weber into account; it is worth noticing that Hennis´ suggestions are central to the experience of bringing Weber and Foucault together. Márcio Alves da Fonseca dedicates himself to examine the uses of History in order to understand the full meaning both of the Weberian comprehensiveness and the particular attitude towards historical present proposed by Foucault. Daniel Andrade explores the theme of the abnormal, which is more attached to Foucault, but is also referred in Weber´s account to the emerging psy-sciences in his time. Mariana Côrtes underlines the importance of religion in the origins of modernity, explored by the two authors. And Ana Lúcia Teixeira emphasizes the interest both Weber and Foucault dedicate to aesthetics manifestations and the ability they have to connect them to their main themes.The second part of the book focuses in the actuality of Weber and Foucault´s perspectives. Arpad Szakolczai highlights that it is possible to identify common limits and omissions in both Weber and Foucault´s work, and he wonders about what would be the proper manner of taking up from their work. Philippe Chevalier asks if there is something specifically religious in the Foucauldian analysis of the religious origins of modern power. Marian Helena Oliva Augusto reflects on to what point it is really possible to approach Weber and Foucault´s perspectives, taking from their central notions of "conduct of life" and "government of self". In the second section of the second part, we present the translation of Colin Gordon´s classical piece, which first appeared in the middle of the 1980s; it marks the first exercises of bringing Weber and Foucault together. Osvaldo López-Ruiz examines the objective conditions for today´ social sciences to use the work of these reflexive-comprehensive thoughts. After reviewing some questions that allow him to approach Weber and Foucault´s procedures, Philippe Steiner outlines what could be a Foucauldian approach to analyzing the market. Fabiana Jardim closes the book in a piece that seeks to articulate the authors´ contribution to the problems of power and political culture, joining the political experience today and the pertinence of their work in order to interrogate this experience, as well as to try to escape it.
