Resumen:
Carotenoids are omnipresent pigments in the photosynthetic membranes of plants and bacteria where they are involved in at least three fundamental photophysical processes. Light-harvesting for photosynthetic work, regulation of singlet-state energy flow to the photosynthetic reaction centers, and photoprotection via the dissipation of excited triplet-state energy. In this study, new triads consisting of carotenoids covalently linked to phthalocyanine-like dyes have been synthesized and studied spectroscopically. They display remarkable singlet and triplet energy transfer efficiencies and in one case a considerable yield of photoinduced charge-separated species.
