Resumen:
2,4-D is a herbicide widely used and produce neurotoxicity in several species. We observed in male rats exposed to 2,4-D alteration in the pre-copulatory behavioral and increase in the c-fos nucleus expression in the accessory olfactory bulb.  Besides, 2,4-D produced neurodegeneration in different areas  related to OB. On the other hand, we observed oxidative stress and death in rat cerebellar granule cell cultures induced by the herbicide. The aim of the present work was to determinate the oxidative status in the male rats BO exposed to 50 (SC50) or 100 (SC100) mg 2,4-D/kg body weight through the diet from post-natal day (PND) 9  to PND 60. In both treatments, 2,4-D produced decrease of reduced glutathione (GSH), thiol groups, and antioxidant enzymes activities [gammaglutamyl-transpeptidase, glutathione-S-transferase, peroxidase and Mn-superoxide dismiutase (SOD) activities]. Therefore, SC100 group showed lipid peroxidation, increase of ROS, and oxidated glutathione (GSSG), diminution of relationship GSH/GSSG and decrease glutathione reductase and Cu/Zn-SOD activities. In conclusion, the OB toxicity produced by 2,4-D  could be associated with oxidative imbalance because this herbicide produced alteration of the antioxidant defenses.
