Resumen:
Nosema apis, a microsporidian pathogen of adult Apis mellifera, is worlidwide distributed(Fries, 1984). Different methodologies are proposed to determine the level of infectioncaused by Nosema in honeybee and they all have varied degrees of certainty (Fries, yEkborn, 1984; Malone et al, 1993). The objective of the present work is to determine ifthere are significant differences in the spore count when the sample is collected from theoutside of the hive or when it is taken from the honey combs placed in the inside. Theresults shows that there are significant differences (p<0.01) between the samples collectedfrom the inner side of the hive and those taken from the outside, being the spores countshigher in those who were obtained from the exterior of the hive. We conclude that thesampling method that better represents the level of infection caused by Nosema apis isthose where the bees are obtained when they are coming back from the foraging. Thisinformation will allow us to establish more precise strategies of control and to include thissampling method in the current national protocols of hygiene and quality, with theposibility of obtaining comparable results all over the country and with the only objectiveof detect, quantify and control this disease that causes son many adverse effects in the hivesand the honey yield.
