Biodiversity of sea cucumbers from southern South America to Antarctic Peninsula, checklist and state of knowledge

The information about sea cucumber species fromsouthern South America (Magellanic Province) to the Antarctic Peninsula hasseveral difficulties, in particular in South America, from where there are fewreports. However, over the last 20 years, taxonomic reviews and descriptions ofnew species of sea cucumbers from Antarctica and South America (MagellanicProvince) increased the available information on biodiversity of these regions.Therefore, the above provided an opportunity to summarize the taxonomic historyfor each region and update these records. Here, we prepared an actualized checklistwith almost 100 species and included general information on the taxonomy, morphology,biology, and distribution of the main species. This information will be part ofthe chapter of the book: “The World of Sea Cucumbers: Challenges, Advances, andInnovations”.
