Resumen:
The IAI-STeP Fellowship Program serves as a platform for this dialogue session featuringdiverse points of view from ECRs and policy makers on their experience in the use of scientificadvice for the development of more effective policies. The session will begin with anintroduction on building human and institutional capacity, using an Inter-American fellowshipprogram as a mechanism to establish and nurture an international network of peers andenhance the significance of science advice, diplomacy, leadership, and communication skills.Transdisciplinary training for ECRs provides first-hand knowledge of the policy-makingprocesses and helps mobilize scientific expertise to support evidence-based solutions. Themoderator will use a Q&A format to foster dialogue with the audience based on thepersonal/professional experience shared by the panelists. The goal of the session is to sharelessons learned from different cultures and different Science Technology and Innovationecosystems to discuss the challenges and opportunities for emerging leaders engaged at thescience-policy interface. We will use live polls with the audience (using Slido, zoom surveys orother apps depending on the conference platform) and share the results to stimulate discussionon the following questions: What kind of skills do emerging leaders need to stay ahead of thecurve and adapt to the rapid change around us? How can we create and support a culture ofinnovation? Who are the most important allies/stakeholders/new and unusual partners in yourwork? In addition to capacity building fellowship programs, what other mechanisms could beused to effectively address common sustainability challenges?
