Resumen:
Disturbances such as selective logging and clear-cutting may alter population parameter in wild populations. Our goal was to determine if a reduction in the area of suitable forest has an effect on the associated population of Alouatta caraya in northern Argentina. We evaluated the effects of forest disturbance using several population parameters, such as ecological and absolute density, number of animals, and relative and total biomass. We report a 32% of decrease in suitable habitats, changes in the number of animals, ecological density and biomass and diet. We suggest that howler monkeys can cope with moderate deforestation and controlled land use.
