Resumen:
A multiwavelength backscatter LIDAR was developed and operates in Buenos Aires, at Centro de Investigaciones en Láseres y Aplicaciones, CEILAP (CITEFA-CONICET), (34.5° S, 58.5° W) to study the aerosol optical properties at different wavelengths, the boundary layer evolution and the water vapor vertical distribution. The LIDAR system, based on the fundamental, second and third harmonic emission lines of a Nd:YAG laser, collects the backscatter Raman returns from nitrogen at the visible and ultraviolet wavelengths. These returns serve to retrieve simultaneously the vertical distribution of the aerosol extinction and Ångström coefficient. A comparison of these results is done with the ones resulting from using the Fernald’s traditional inversion method. In addition, the water vapor Raman-shifted backscatter return from the ultraviolet laser line is used to retrieve the water vapor mixing ratio vertical distribution and the aerosol extinction as a function of the relative humidity. In this work we analyzed the result of the measurement corresponding to the 10th November 2006.
