Resumen:
Neurodegenerative diseases affect the central nervous system, with an incidence that increases every year. Researchers are involvedin the development of neuroprotective agents. In this sense,hEPO has a leading role because its antiapoptotic, antiinflammatory, antioxidant and cell proliferative effects have been observed in neuraltissues expressing the EPO receptor. Thus, the recombinantform (rhEPO) results a potential tool for neuroprotection and neurogenesisof brain-damaged areas. In this work, the mouse neuroblastoma cell line (N2a) was used toevaluate not only the neuroprotective but also the neuronal plasticityrole of hEPO.The neuroprotection role of CHO cell line-produced hEPO wasstudied by measuring the capacity of cytokine to reverse the staurosporine(STP)-induced apoptosis in N2a cells. Different cellulardensities, distinct STP and rhEPO concentrations and incubationtimes were assayed, demonstrating that rhEPO was capable to reversesignificantly the induced apoptosis in a dose-response effect(p
