Resumen:
Cannabinoid receptors type CB1 have been describes in the CNS and anterior pituitary, AP. Also it was reported that peripheral injections of arachydonyl-ethanolamide, anandamide, AEA, the endogenous ligand for cannabinoid receptors, lowered plasma LH levels.  In the present work we studied the effects of AEA on LH release from AP and LHRH release from medial basal hypothalamus, MBH obtained from normal adult male rat Sprague-Dawley rats. We conclude that anandamide lowers plasma LH mainly by inhibiting the pulsatility of LHRH by stimulating GABA release and also has a direct inhibitory action on the release of LH from the anterior pituitary.
