So what we do at the lab?We study the structural neuronal plasticity, as the ability of brain or system to change? in other words means the capacity of the system to i) modify the number of the cells ii) to grow axons and dendrites of iii) to modify the number of synapses?Why we study. As you well know the structural plasticity is a complex process that are involve in the normal brain development which are required for physiological functions as learning a task and it is compromised in different pathological conditions such as neurodegenerative diseases (ALZ) , genetic syndromes (Down Syndrome) and in acute brain trauma or stroke?How we study: We used primary culture of hippocampal neurons which recapitulate in vitro all of stages that normally happens during the brain development. In other words, with this approach we could study neuritogenesis, axon outhgrowth, filopodia/spine formation and synapses
