Resumen:
In certain situations, a baroclynic atmosphere is favorable to the development of slantwise convection. Emannuel (1983a,b) showed that the nature of the convection is local enough to be treated with a technique similar to the standard static instability parcel method. This author estimated the so called symmetric instability considering the temperature difference between the environment and that of a bidimensional parcel reversibly ascending on an angular momentum surface. This technique has been applied to a severe storm case that occurred on 10-16-94 nearby the Ezeiza station. The analysis showed that the slantwise convection was more likely to occur than vertical convection.
