Resumen:
The Humid Chaco ecoregion stretches from NE Argentina into Central Paraguay. Itis characterized by a mosaic of sub-humid forests, tropical savannas, grasslands aswell as wetland areas. The genus Fulvifomes was described by Murrill with F. robiniae as the type species. Through phylogenetic studies it has been possible toconfirm its independence within the family Hymenochaetaceae (Hymenochaetales,Basidiomycota) and, morphologically, it is characterized by a dimitic hyphal system,thick-walled, yellowish basidiospores, and the absence of setae. In Paraguay, studies on Hymenochaetaceae including molecular studies are scarce. This work is acontribution to the mycobiota of Paraguay and South America using morphologicaland molecular phylogenetic techniques. During field campaigns carried out in 2019in Pte. Hayes Department, specimens of Fulvifomes were collected from living treesof Guayacán (Libidibia paraguariensis, Fabaceae). They were distinguished by an ungulate basidioma, rimose pilear surface, broadly ellipsoidal to globose, thick-walledbasidiospores, and a dimitic hyphal system restricted to the tubes. Based on ITS andLSU sequences, phylogenetic analyses were carried out by additionally using publicly available data. The analyses confirmed the monophyly of Fulvifomes and revealed the studied specimens to form a robustly supported clade, sister to F. robiniae, described for Robinia pseudacacia (Fabaceae) from North America, the Caribbean and Central America. Based on their morphological features, type of substrate and phylogenetic distinction, we propose these materials to represent a new species, Fulvifomes guayacan
