Resumen:
The Diffuser Augmented Wind Turbine (DAWT) technology, allows a reduction in the rotor size for the same output power and produce the additional benefits of noise reduction and blade protection against extreme-wind conditions due to the encasement of the rotor. On the basis of the compiled experiences working on hydraulic channeling devices for floating water-current turbines, the ISEP group design a floating DAWT called Polifemus which incorporates the new concepts of double-flow channeling-device, coaxial vortex-generator and modular assembling concept. Summing up the reasons presented, the floating DAWT concept could represent an interesting future alternative to the actual HAWT technologies and deserves a further effort of research & development.
