Resumen:
Almost 2 billion persons are latently infected with M ycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) and at risk of disease reactivation. In an in vitro Mtb latency model, Rv2626c was shown to be up-regulated during hypoxic conditions.Rv2626c is expressed by Mycobacerium tuberculosis but not by BCG.Previously, we demonstrated that Rv2626c induced IFN-γ responses in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) or whole blood from latent tuberculosis individuals (LTBI).Our main aim was to develop and evaluate a new candidate vaccine including a recombinant Ankara modified vaccinia virus (MVA) expressing the Rv2626c protein (MVA2626c) and the Rv2626c DNA (DNA vaccine).
