Resumen:
During the Christianization Age of Central Europe different factors contributed to the institutional and cultural expansion of the Christian faith and values in the region. Missions were part of the broadening of the ?territorial? limits of Christianity, but also of individual conversions and adoption of the religion by different peoples. They were carried out not by ?pure missionaries?, but by individuals who were usually also bishops or monks. Their education and interests contributed to the construction of ideas around missionary work and ideals, as well as of identities. This presentation will focus on aspects related to missions and identities in a time when peoples in Central Europe were being Christianized, the Latin Church was establishing its institutions and new political entities were arising. I will present a review of basis, tasks and traditions behind the missionary experience and knowledge for a wide region, which had diverse historical background and contemporary configurations. Nevertheless, it is possible to identify some general issues, which can help us understand the difficult tasks of those who expanded Christianity -a process which was not necessarily profound nor lacking setbacks. The presentation will include some aspects related to the continuous construction of identities and how Christians and non-Christians were depicted in the documents.
