Resumen:
The HD-Zip family of transcription factors is unique tothe plant kingdom. These proteins exhibit the singularcombination of a homeodomain with a leucine zipperacting as a dimerization motif. They can be classified intofour subfamilies, according to a set of distinctive featuresthat include DNA-binding specificities, gene structures, additional common motifs and physiologicalfunctions. Some HD-Zip proteins participate in organand vascular development or meristem maintenance.Others mediate the action of hormones or are involvedin responses to environmental conditions. Here, wereview recent data for this family of transcription factorsfrom a wide variety of plant species to unravel theircrucial role in plant development.
