Effect of citric acid as esterifying agent in the development of Starch- PLA composites

In this study different films were developed calendaring thermoplastic starch and polylactic acid, compatibilized through an esterifying agent based in citric acid (CA). CA is inexpensive, nontoxic and considered nutritionally harmless as approved by FDA. The films were characterized by several techniques which are only shown in this summary: contact angle, static and dynamical mechanical temperature analysis (DMTA), and morphological analysis by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is only brief discussed.
