Resumen:
The aim of this work was to evaluate the activation of macrophages by two extracts of jarilla. The infusion (I) and decocción (D) were obtained with 5 g of dried and powered material according to Argentinean Pharmacopoeia. Peritoneal macrophages from mice sensitized with proteosa-peptona were collected for: respiratory burst (NBT); phagocytosis of Candid albicans; expression of LPS receptors; production of NO and iNOS expression (Western Blot). Jarilla’s extracts at 0.2 mg/ml activated macrophages. Reduction of NBT (p £ 0.02) as well as phagocytosis of C. albicans (P £ 0.04) were increased only when macrophages were treated with D and zimosan. Macrophages treated with I and LPS showed a significant increase in the production of NO (p £ 0.02) and the iNOS expression was 6.8 fold higher as compared with untreated macrophages. The binding of LPS-FITC respect to the controls was increased in macrophages treated with D and I. We can conclude that both jarilla’s extracts at 0.2 mg/ml activate macrophages and increased NO production and iNOS expression. In addition, D increases the expression of zimosan and LPS receptors, while infusion only increases LPS receptors .
