Insulin resistance and chronic inflammation are frequently associated with the development of cognitive disorders and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer´s disease (AD). However, it is not yet clear whether there is a causal link between these two factors, and which one appears earlier in the pathology. Our objective was to study metabolic parameters and inflammation in a possible brain insulin resistance context in a transgenic model of AD, the PDAPP-J20 mouse at the age of 8 months. We hypothesized that an inflammatory environment could trigger insulin resistance in the brain, neurodegeneration and cognitive impairment.
