Resumen:
INTRODUCTION: Several studies have highlighted the importance of the interaction between microbiota and the immune system in the development and homeostasis of the human organism. Alterations in the number and composition of microbiota are associated with proinflammatory and pathological state-like metabolic diseases, autoimmune diseases, and HIV infection. Men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW) are highly affected by HIV in Argentina. Differences in microbial populations have been associated with sexual preferences, the presence of HIV, and other viral infectionsOBJECTIVE: This study aimed to provide the first microbiome characterization of oral and anal samples derived from an Argentinian cohort of TGW (n=9) and MSM (n=36) HIV infected (HIV+) and non-infected (HIV-) cases among an enrolling cohort of HIV+ and HIV- TGW and MSM from Buenos Aires.
