Resumen:
The talk is intended to show the difficulties of researching animal law and ethics in a context dominated by social inequalities, poverty, economic and social crisis. Despite all the mentioned obstacles, Latin America has both a vibrant community of scholars working on these topics, mainly from an intersectional approach and also many animal advocacy groups and some important judicial desitions that are pioneers in the animal rights field (i.e. Sandra, the Buenos Aires zoo orangutan). Since the great majority of people do not live in the Global North, and most depredatory activities take place in the Global South, it is highly important to know and recognize the work, experiences, and problems of the latter. Therefore, I will summarize some of the main obstacles and achievements in the region hoping to generate relations with the audience.
