Resumen:
Mycobacterium bovis and Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP), the causative agents of bovine tuberculosis (bTB) and bovine paratuberculosis (PTB), respectively, share a high number of antigenic proteins; making accurate diagnosis of both diseases difficult. In a previous study we demonstrated the utility of the IFNγ, CXCL10, MMP9, IL-22 and THBS1 genes as transcriptional biomarkers for bTB (Klepp et al. 2019, DOI: 10.1016/j.rvsc.2018.10.016). In this work we show that expression of IFNγ, CXCL10, MMP9 and IL-22 in MAP-stimulated peripheral blood cells did not differentiate globally, animals with PTB from healthy animals. However, as in bTB, THBS1 expression is downregulated in the MAP-infected group of animals compared with the non-infected animals. Therefore, the results of this study add new attributes of specificity to the expression of IFNγ, CXCL10, MMP9 and IL-22 as biomarkers for bTB.
