Resumen:
In this seminar I will present some of the key points of research that I carried out on the government of the city of Buenos Aires, research that gave rise to a recently published book entitled ?Governing Buenos Aires. City, politics and society, from the Nineteenth century to the Present?. I am going to organize my presentation into four parts. In the first one, I will summarize the main conceptual and methodological decisions that I adopted to define the object of my research. I will also present the main research questions. In the second, I will show some urban and social data of the history of Buenos Aires that, I think, are necessary to understand the analysis I have made, especially for an audience that is not familiar with the history of Buenos Aires. In the third one, I am going to focus on the answer that, in the book, I give to the three central questions: What is Buenos Aires? How to govern it? Who should do it? To do this, I will compare different historical moments, from the late Nineteenth century to the end of the Twentieth. And finally, in the fourth one, I will close my presentation, stating how I believe that the results of this research can dialogue with other cases, starting from a series of concepts, questions and dimensions of analysis.
