Resumen:
The materials employed in conditions of dry sliding can present different wear regimens. The wear regimens are mainly conditioned by the different parameters of the tribological system such as: load, sliding velocity, room temperature, humidity, and the configuration of the wear machine. Wear maps are useful tools for the selection of materials. They are clear and precise to found the range of load and sliding velocity adequate for each material [1]. Multiple tests at several loads and sliding velocities are necessary to collect information necessary to built wear maps. Optical and electronic microscopy of the worn surface and subsurface are used to identify the wear mechanisms. The objective is to determine the transition between mild and severe wear by performing tests under different loads using a constant sliding velocity. Cylindrical samples of AA1060 aluminum alloy matrix reinforced with 15% in volume of alumina particles were tested in a range of loads between 4.9 N and 91.2 N, using a pin-on-ring wear machine. Table 1 shows the loads used in the tests.
