Resumen:
The water flow in unsaturated soil is described by the Richards?s equation; which is a non-linear partial differential equation. The Richards?s equation is solved using numerical methods. Three different methods of approximations in finite differences are used. The speed and stability of the approximations are compared as a function of the time step. Each approximation give a different model, for this work were obtained three models which are: the explicit model, the simple implicit model and the Crank-Nicolson model. Dirichlet boundary conditions were assumed. It was found that all three models converge to the same solution and the Crank-Nicolson model has the better performance, because requires the smallest computation time.
