Resumen:
The GLORIA target region at Cumbres Calchaquíes in Tucumán, Argentina, is the first GLORIA site in the country. This isolated mountain range is a much older than the Andes, and straddles the gradients between high rainfall eastern slopes and dry western slopes, making it particularly appropriate to detect the effect of climate change on vegetation responses. We present the first results of high Andean vegetation monitoring, in the context of the GLORIA project in Tucumán. We established the bases for the long term monitoring, to study the effect of climate change on plant communities. The area is highly diverse compared with other Andean Gloria sites. Vascular plant richness declines with altitude, and plant cover decline even more. Diversity and evenness altitudinal pattern changes are less clear. While HUA showed a lower diversity compared with all other sites, its α diversity was higher. Both methods, 1m2 and the entire area samplings are needed to capture the whole species richness.
