We present in this chapter an overview of various aspects linked with the archaeological evidence about basketry, especially from findings made on the territory of the current countries of Argentina and Brazil. Key terms and concepts associated with the production basketwork (techniques, forms, technological classifications) are defined, and direct and indirect evidence is presented (imprints on ceramic surfaces), according to the dominant environmental characteristics and the specific preservation conditions defined in the different geographical regions.
