In this paper we study the spatial distribution of poverty in urban Argentina. We analyze the statistics of two types of poverty measures: the unsatisfied basic needs measure (a type of direct poverty measure) and the Head Count Ratio (a type of income poverty measure). Statistics from both types of measures show a very unequal distribution of poverty across the country over the study period 1980-2002, being the northern areas the ones that show the highest level of poverty. Within the North, the rural areas are the most affected by poverty.
