This becomes relevant in younger democracies becausealthough there are free and fair elections in those countries, there stillremain severe problems of institutionalization that recurrently becomepolitical crises. This paper theorized that this lower level ofinstitutionalization allows more opportunities to induce manipulations thatcould compromise accountability and threaten democracy. These manipulationswould affect the information that citizens receive and induce wrong judgmentsabout the performance of the government. The leading question of this projectis how does media coverage of campaigns condition the retrospective evaluationsof Latin American citizens regarding the economic administration ofthe incumbent?</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; background: white none repeat scroll 0% 0%;"><span style="" lang="en">Inthis sense, the main goal of this research is to provide methodological;empirical; and theoretical contributions to the field of Comparative Politics.I will endeavor to answer this question using a comparative design based on theuse of the multilevel statistical technique to analyze the general tendency ofthe region For individual level data I will use the Americas Barometer from theLatin American Public Opinion Project of Vanderbilt University from 2012 to2016. This is the best public opinion survey that includes all the relevantquestions regarding electoral behavior and voting for Latin America. Forcountry level variables I will use the Perceptions of Electoral IntegrityExpert Survey (PEI 6.0) from the Electoral Integrity Project that includeeleven dimensions of the complete electoral cycle including a set of questionsregarding media coverage. This research design allows a better understanding ofcontextual influence on voting for Latin American countries. </span></p><style><!-- /* Font Definitions */@font-face{font-family:Garamond;panose-1:2 2 4 4 3 3 1 1 8 3;mso-font-charset:0;mso-generic-font-family:auto;mso-font-pitch:variable;mso-font-signature:3 0 0 0 1 0;} /* Style Definitions */p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal{mso-style-parent:"";margin:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;mso-pagination:widow-orphan;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman";mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";mso-ansi-language:EN-US;mso-fareast-language:EN-US;}size:612.0pt 792.0pt;margin:70.85pt 3.0cm 70.85pt 3.0cm;mso-header-margin:36.0pt;mso-footer-margin:36.0pt;mso-paper-source:0;}div.Section1{page:Section1;}</style></div></body></html>What do you want to do ?New mailCopy
