Resumen:
We evaluated genetic and epigenetic modifications involved in IFN-g regulation during active tuberculosis. +874 A/T SNP of IFNG was determined and an elevated frequency of the AA genotype was observed in patients with active tuberculosis. We also observed and increased methylation of the -53 CpG IFNG promoter site in blood samples of tuberculosis patients.Taken together our results allow the identification of genetics marks of tuberculosis susceptibility and contribute with new mechanisms of genetic and epigenetic regulation of IFN-g in the immune response against M. tuberculosis. Further epigenetic modifications of IFN-g are currently being investigated.
