Resumen:
Chemical control with pyrethroid insecticides has been used since the 1980´s in a successful manner for the control of Triatoma infestans, the main vector of Trypanosoma cruzi in southern South America. Pyrethroid-resistant individuals of T. infestans have been detected in various localities of Argentina and Bolivia, as a phenomenon associated to deficient field control actions. In Argentina, high, medium and low resistant foci have been detected in Juan José Castelli (General Güemes Department, Chaco Province. These foci show toxicology heterogeneity between villages, between households of a single village and even between individual insects. In 2016, within the framework of entomological surveillance and chemical control actions, the village of Pampa Argentina (PA) was included and 91.6% of the houses were sprayed. Pools of insects from the locality were sent for toxicological evaluation in order to determine their status and high levels of resistance to pyrethroids were detected. The aim of the present study was to analyze if the T. infestans from PA present the same toxicological heterogeneity described in other villages of the Department and to test new and alternative chemical control strategies in conjunction with the inhabitants and local health institutions.
