Resumen:
A solution to two major environmental problems is presented. First, the tens of tons of plastic waste that are buried daily in our local landfill. Second, the high energy consumption in heating and conditioning in homes. The development of a brick for masonry satisfies these two great problems. Recycled HDPE, LDPE and EPS waste were used as aggregates. Five different dosages were studied, in the fresh state of the mixture, IRAM standards of granulometry, consistency and temperature were applied. In the hardened state, tests were carried out under IRAM standards for resistance to axial compression, density, thermal conductivity and thermal resistance. The brick was manufactured with an axial compressive strength of 50 kg/cm2, a density of 958 kg/m3, less than that of water, and a thermal resistance of 0.60 m2K/W, greater than hollow ceramic bricks and concrete blocks. The results were satisfactory and Puma Punku brick is recommended for the construction of social housing with up to two floors.
