Resumen:
We report the presence of Diplodus argenteus and Pagrus pagrus in coastal rocky reefs of southern San Matías Gulf, San José Gulf and Nuevo Gulf (Chubut, Argentina), extending both species´ distributions to 43ºS, at least 200 km south of their previously reported range. The fish assemblage that inhabits nearshore rocky reefs in northern Patagonian gulfs is low in species richness and has components from two diferent biogeographic provinces: the warm-temperate south-western Atlantic province, with species typically ranging from Rio de Janeiro to northern Patagonia, and the cold-temperate South American, with species typical of higher latitudes. The occurrence of P. pagrus and D. argenteus in the northern Patagonian gulfs adds two tropical-temperate components to this assemblage.
