Resumen:
Eight different fungal strains isolated from Celtis tala and Scutia buxifolia forest soils inthe Eastern of Buenos Aires province (Argentina) were cultivated in solid-statefermentations (SSF) and subjected to an enzymatic screening. All of them were able togrowth at high pH values with glucose and V8Ò vegetable juice as carbon source. Themost important finding was the presence of an a-L-rhamnosidase activity of Verticillumtenerum, which is capable to degrade natural and synthetic substrates in alkalineconditions. The expression of the enzyme is increased in the presence of its naturalsubstrate (naringin) in the culture media. According to previous information, this wouldbe the first report of an a-L-rhamnosidase stable and active in alkaline conditions.Key words: Alkalophilic fungi; plant cell-wall degrading enzymes, a-L-rhamnosidases,Verticillum tenerum, flavonoides. en San Miguel de Tucuman.
